Kids Update

H had her first swim lesson yesterday afternoon with the private instructor.  I think it went really well.  The instructor pointed out a few things to H that would help her be more efficient with her stroke.  Hopefully, this will help keep her from getting so tired out so quickly.  We shall see.  She has another lesson this evening.  H asked me this weekend if she could sign up for tennis lessons.  So, that's another thought going through our heads.  However, she spent all weekend playing on her keyboard.  She was composing her own song.  At first she printed some blank music sheets and started writing the notes as she played them.  Then, she asked me to find something on the computer that did it for her.  There's a really cool website called Noteflight that will let you compose music.  Then, it plays it back for you.  She spent hours upon hours doing this this weekend.  So, tennis lessons or music lessons???

E is a complete and total handful.  He had his 18 month check on Friday afternoon.  (Yes, he's 20 months old now.  We are a little behind schedule.)  He is in the 45% for weight, 85% for height, and 95% for head circumference.  Poor thing looks like a lollipop.  Stick on the bottom with a big ole noggin.  :)  When I picked him up from school on Friday, the teachers told me that he bit another child.  My heart sank.  Apparently, the teachers think the other child put his/her finger in E's mouth due to the way the bite was.  I'm hoping and praying that this is the case.  They said they don't see him as the type of child that would grab another kid and chomp into him.  But, they couldn't blame him for biting the other child if the other child's finger was stuffed into his mouth.  I guess time will tell, but biting is a serious offense at our daycare.  They kick kids out for biting.  I talked to the doctor about it while we were at his checkup because we still have this issue with E hitting and pinching.  This particular problem ebbs and flows.  Sometimes, it's really bad, other times, its non-existent.  It seems like he is much worse when he has extended periods of time at home... like on vacation or while he's sick.  The doctor said that it's just that he doesn't have the logical abilities to think through his actions yet and that it's just instinct.  He reassured me that its not indicative of his character and that he would outgrow it.  Still, it's one of those things that you swear you'd never let happen with your kid, but reality is different.

Regardless, A and J are coming in for a visit this weekend.  They are going to spend a few nights in the crazy Cagle house.  I seriously think that after a few nights with us, they will be thinking twice about ever starting a family.  Actually, it will probably only take one meal with us.  H is so picky with what she eats and E throws everything (forks, sippy cups, food, bowls, etc) they will be wondering if they would ever be able to handle it.  (or maybe they'll just tuck back off in their room thinking, "our kids would never do that" --  :)  )  Either way, A & J, just remember, it doesn't stay like this forever.  H will learn to eat different foods one day.  She may even turn into a health nut by the time she's a teenager.  And, E?  Well, one day, you'll be able to eat a meal with him without having to worry about him hurling a fork at your head.

A word of warning though...  if you want to 'play ball' with E, beware, he has a strong arm and throws everything directly at your head.  :)  (I got clocked a few times this weekend.)
